How "Gentle" Dentistry Looks at Vibrant Smiles
Three things make the difference. First, we listen before we examine. Second, we explain before we treat. Third, we manage pain with sedation and technique, not by asking you to push through.
On the listening part: Dr. Rainford starts every first visit with a conversation. What brought you in? What has gone wrong in past dental visits? What do you want out of this one? Then he examines.
On the explaining part: if you need a crown, Dr. Rainford will show you the X-ray, point to the problem, and explain the options. The front desk will give you a written estimate before you leave. You decide whether to schedule the work.
On the pain part: we use a wand-style anesthetic delivery system (the STA) that delivers numbing medicine slowly. Most patients say the injection feels like steady pressure rather than a pinch. We apply a topical anesthetic gel first. We offer nitrous oxide for anyone who wants it. None of that costs extra.
What Happens at Your First Visit
A first visit at Vibrant Smiles runs 45 to 60 minutes. Expect:
- A short conversation about what brought you in.
- Digital X-rays if you have not had any recently. (Far less radiation than the film X-rays older patients may remember.)
- A full exam, including a check of your teeth, gums, bite, and a quick oral cancer screening.
- A walk-through of what we see, on a screen, with the X-rays right in front of you.
- A cleaning, if there is time and you are due for one.
- A written estimate for any treatment we recommend, with your insurance benefits applied.
If you are anxious, tell us when you book. We can split the visit across two appointments. We can skip X-rays the first day. We can stop at any point. The first visit is yours to set the pace.
Sedation Options
If anxiety is the reason you have stayed away from the dentist, Vibrant Smiles offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation. Dr. Rainford holds the Georgia permit required for IV sedation and matches the tier to the work, not the other way around.
For costs, insurance coverage, and how to pick the right tier, see our sedation dentistry cost guide at vibrantsmilesga.com/sedation-dentistry-in-mableton-ga/.
Technology That Reduces Discomfort
A few of the tools we use and why they matter:
- Digital X-rays produce a result on a monitor in seconds and use significantly less radiation than the older film X-rays.
- The STA wand delivers anesthetic at a controlled rate. This is the single biggest reason patients say injections at our office feel different.
- A soft-tissue laser replaces the scalpel in some gum-line procedures, which usually means faster healing and less post-visit soreness.
- A 3D Conebeam scanner gives a complete view of your jaw and tooth structure. We use it primarily for implant planning. The scan takes 20 seconds.

Insurance, Financing, and Our Membership Plan
We are in-network with most major PPO dental insurance plans. The front desk will verify your benefits before your first visit and apply them to any treatment estimate.
If you do not have dental insurance, ask about our Friends and Family Membership Plan. It bundles routine preventive care (cleanings, exams, X-rays) into a flat annual fee and includes a discount on other services. The plan was set up specifically for patients without traditional insurance.
For larger treatment plans, like implants, full-mouth restoration, or cosmetic work, we offer patient financing with monthly payments. The front desk will walk through the options before any work begins.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I have not seen a dentist in years?
That is the most common situation we see in new patients. The first visit is an exam and a conversation. We will prioritize what is most important and let you decide on a pace that works for you.
Do you take same-day emergency appointments?
Usually, yes. Call (678) 810-1100 as early in the day as possible if you have a toothache, broken tooth, or lost crown. We will get you in if there is any way to make it work.
What insurance do you take?
We are in-network with most major PPO plans. Call the office or fill out the contact form with your insurance info, and we will verify your coverage before your appointment.
Do you treat children?
Yes. The practice is family dentistry, which means we see patients of all ages.
