What to Expect During Your Cleaning
A routine cleaning runs about 45 minutes to an hour. Your hygienist starts with a health update, an intraoral camera scan so you can see what we see on the screen, gum pocket measurements to detect early gum disease, and digital X-rays if you are due. We perform a visual oral cancer screen and, when indicated, use a VELscope soft-tissue light for early detection. The cleaning itself combines ultrasonic scaling for tartar, fine hand instruments for below the gumline, polishing for surface stains, and fluoride if you are at higher cavity risk.
Dr. Rainford reviews your X-rays and the hygienist's findings before you leave. If follow-up work is needed, you receive a written plan with costs spelled out before any work is scheduled.

Education and Training
Dr. Rainford earned his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from The Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in Augusta. His undergraduate degree is in chemistry from the University of West Georgia, with a minor in biology. After dental school, he completed post-graduate training across four specialty areas: prosthodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, and endodontics. The result is that the dentist overseeing your cleaning is also trained to handle the more complex work — crowns, implants, root canals, orthodontic cases — without referring you out for most procedures.
