Dr. Rainford has practiced dentistry in Georgia for over 15 years. He earned his Doctor of Medical Dentistry from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry after his undergraduate work at the University of West Georgia. His post-graduate training covers prosthodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, and endodontics. He holds Fellowship status with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI), which is the relevant credential for implant work.
Memberships include the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the North Georgia Dental Society, the Hinman Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, and lifetime membership in the American Orthodontic Society. Local anesthesia is included with every extraction. The area is fully numbed before we begin, and we add more anesthetic if you feel anything sharp during the procedure.
Two sedation options are available beyond local anesthesia:
- Nitrous oxide (laughing gas): relaxed but awake. Wears off in minutes. You can drive yourself home.
- Oral sedation: a prescription medication taken before the appointment. Deeply relaxed but conscious. Requires a driver home.

Recovery, Aftercare, and Healing
Most simple extractions heal at the gum level in 7 to 10 days. Surgical extractions and wisdom teeth take a few extra days. You leave with written aftercare instructions covering:
- Bleeding management with gauze pressure
- Swelling control with ice the first 24 hours and warm compresses after
- Soft, cool food for the first day (yogurt, smoothies without straws, applesauce, lukewarm soup)
