What a First Visit Looks Like
First visits run 45 to 60 minutes. We do an exam, take digital X-rays (much lower radiation than older film X-rays), and walk through what we see on a monitor in the room. We share the X-rays directly with you. If you need a cleaning, we usually do it the same visit.
If you are anxious, tell us when you book. We can take it slower, skip X-rays on the first visit, or pause at any point. None of that costs extra and none of it changes how we treat you.
At the end of the visit, we give you a written estimate for any recommended treatment with your insurance benefits applied. You decide whether to book the work.
Sedation Options
If anxiety is the reason you have stayed away from the dentist, Vibrant Smiles offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation. Dr. Rainford holds the Georgia permit required for IV sedation and matches the tier to the work, not the other way around.
For costs, insurance coverage, and how to pick the right tier, see our sedation dentistry cost guide at vibrantsmilesga.com/sedation-dentistry-in-mableton-ga/.
Technology Worth Knowing About
Three tools that matter most for patient comfort:
- The STA wand-style anesthetic system. Slow, controlled numbing. The single tool most often credited with making injections feel different.
- Digital X-rays. Faster, much lower radiation than the older film X-rays.
- A soft-tissue laser, used in some gum-line procedures. Reduces the need for stitches in many cases and usually shortens recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it worth driving from Powder Springs when there are closer dentists?
That depends on what you need. If you need routine care and have no anxiety, any reputable general dentist will treat you well. If past dental visits have been hard, or if you have been putting it off because of anxiety, the drive is the part most patients say they would do again.
Do you offer evening or weekend hours?
We are open Wednesday evenings until 7:00 p.m. We are closed Friday through Sunday. Call as early in the day as you can if you need a same-day appointment.
What if I have not been to the dentist in 5 or 10 years?
That is one of the most common situations we see. The first visit is an exam and a conversation. We will prioritize what is most important and let you decide the pace for the rest.
Do you take same-day emergency appointments?
Usually, yes. Call (678) 810-1100 first thing in the morning if you have a toothache, broken tooth, or lost crown. We will work to get you in.
How do I know if I need sedation?
You do not need to decide before you come in. Tell us at booking that you are anxious. Dr. Rainford will talk through your options at the first visit. Most anxious patients choose nitrous oxide for the actual treatment day, but a lot of patients find they only need it once or twice before they stop asking for it.
