Making Dental Visits Easy for Kids

With your help, dental visits can be a positive and fun experience for your child. Our team takes time to ensure your child feels safe, heard, and comfortable. We work hard to make dental appointments enjoyable, and you can play a big part in making the experience even better!

Here’s how you can help us create a successful visit:

  • Use positive, friendly language when talking about the dentist. Words like easy, quick, gentle, or fun help create a sense of safety and excitement.

  • Avoid using words like "pain," "hurt," "needle," or "shot." These can trigger fear or anxiety, even if your child has never had a negative dental experience before.

  • Praise your child after their appointment. Highlight how brave they were and remind them of the cool things they did, like getting a sticker or picking out a toothbrush. Reinforce the fun, not the fear.

  • Don’t ask anxiety-triggering questions such as: “Did it hurt?” “Were you scared?” “Did you get a shot?” Even well-meaning questions like these can cause your child to associate the dentist with discomfort, even if the visit went well.

If your child receives any anesthesia during treatment, gently explain that their tongue or cheek might feel “tickly” or “sleepy” for a little while. Most children adapt well to the numbness, some even find it silly or amusing, which is great for reducing anxiety.

With a team approach and the right attitude, your child can grow up seeing the dentist as a place where smiles are cared for, not feared. Let’s make dental care something to look forward to!
